Jan Schaeffer (1923 – 2018 in Rotterdam) is a versatile artist. He was best known for his Rotterdam harbours, landscapes, river views, cityscapes and still lifes. All this in a romantic-figurative style, reminiscent of the Hague School. Image and especially color fascinated him. At an advanced age he was still painting every day in his studio.
Jan Schaeffer can always be recognized by the smooth brushwork and the harmonious use of color with a bright accent here and there.
