Louis.Th.J.Meijs 1902 – 1995
The painter Meijs lived and worked in Scheveningen, The Hague, Voorburg, since 1932 in The Hague. He lived in southern France for a long time.
Meijs was a pupil of the Academie of art in The Hague. He painted and drew in more or less impressionistic style landscapes, flowers, portraits,
figures and compositions.
He was a well-known and gifted artist. Louis was a member of The Hague Art and taught M.W. Volkers
A gallant man, a tad vain, with a large dose of charm and unexpected humor. Louis Meys, only had one painting lesson in his life.
An intimate colorist in an impressionistic tradition, undergoing the sensation of light and backlight of shimmering colors.
His work has a strong traditional impact. Many qualities such as honesty, craftsmanship and simplicity characterize his paintings.
This painting of the farmhouse “De Viersprong” in Ruurlo, is special because in 1943 the NDSAP political leader in the Netherlands was murdered here.
